Dreamer wakes up growling!

If an animal appears in a dream, his behavior or characteristics, or the dreamer’s experiences with similar animals will provide windows into the dream’s message for the dreamer.  Often, folklore about an animal can provide a starting point for understanding its importance in the dream.  Today’s dramatic dream in which the dreamer is the tiger offers a fine example:

Dear SMYD,

I’m at a great time in my life.  Almost everything is going well.  The icing on the cake has been my recent promotion at work.  I am thrilled to be recognized by the higher ups in my company and even a little surprised and intimidated to be sitting at the table with them and the other “big boys.”  I just hope I can live up to their expectations and keep on impressing them favorably.

I’m pretty sure this dream relates to that.  What do you make of it?

I dreamed I was a tiger!  Actually, sometimes I was a tiger, sometimes I was myself, and sometimes I was a blend of both.  In every case, I was standing up on my feet ~ my hind legs! ~ and pawing at the air.  I was growling, showing my teeth and claws in a fierce display.  The entire thing took place with me behind a freestanding pane of glass that couldn’t have stopped a tiger at all.  No one was in danger mostly because no one else was there.  The dream had a totally white background.  I woke myself up growling with my hands in the air!

Signed,

Tiger

Dear Tiger,

Tigers are beautiful and powerful animals.  In your dream, you are a tiger.  Beautiful, powerful and fear inducing.  Hold that thought, because your dream speaks to another thought that you expressed about your new position with the “big boys” in your company.

You say you feel surprised to find yourself at the table with the higher ups and intimidated by the circumstances.  You are now being called upon to demonstrate that you deserve the promotion and can hold your own.  You want to prove yourself.

Your dream suggests you’ve reared up on your hind legs and put on a big show for no one.  The show, in other words, is not important and does not impress anyone.  They already know you and can see you through the glass.  They already know the part of you that’s a tiger and the other parts of you, too.

You mention that no one is in danger.  But you might be in danger of embarrassing yourself with a grandiose display that is out of proportion to the situation.  As you’re making your transition into your new surroundings, you may notice that you’re shifting from being yourself to partly yourself and partly bluster, all the way to all dramatic show.

Relax Dear Dreamer!  You’ve earned a promotion to a position you’ve aspired to.  People you respect pulled you up to their level.  No need for all the bluster to make an impression.  You’ve done that already!

Sweet Dreams to You!
